Ortase

Ortase is a specification that gives meaning to names. Ortase is a dictionary.

It is the base specification for other specifications that give meaning to names for specific environments. For example, the Specification Techyle suggest to mark up a Microsoft (R) Word text with the name of a person with the character style name "uas" while the Specification Wreboc suggests to mark up a person name in xhtml using "<cite class="has">". The first character differs, but they both refer to the name "as" that is specified by Ortase for this purpose. This makes it easier to map names to eachother: It is obvious that the Microsoft (R) Word text with the character style name "uas" should map to an xhtml markup using "<cite class="has">". Thus conversion between such formats becomes easier if the both use names derived from the same base specification Ortase.

The specification Ortase consists of several chapters. The chapters which are finished already are given below.
